Modern interpretation of the classics: The premiere of the play «Notes of a Madman»

On February 4 of the current year, the theatre hosted the premiere of Notes of a Madman, based on the short story of the same name by N. V. Gogol. The production was staged by invited Georgian director Nikoloz Sabashvili. Preserving the essence of the author’s original intent, the director succeeded in conveying the complex and multifaceted material with both sensitivity and expressive clarity. Thanks to vivid stage imagery, thoughtfully designed sets, as well as lighting and sound solutions, the work acquired a new, contemporary resonance.
For an entire hour, the audience’s attention remained fully focused on the main character of the performance, whose role was brilliantly embodied by Tolendy Algozhin. With subtle psychological precision, he conveyed the inner world of a complex, obsessive character who has lost his sanity and suffers from unrequited love, social injustice, misunderstanding, and loneliness.
This contemporary interpretation of the classic work became a profound reflection on the fragility and vulnerability of the human soul. The theme addressed in the performance remains relevant today, despite the fact that the original story was written nearly two centuries ago.
