40th Anniversary of the Puppet Theatre: A Celebration of Art and a Tribute to History
On February 19, 2026, a ceremonial event was held to mark the 40th anniversary of the theatre. It was on this very day in 1986 that the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR adopted Resolution No. 70 “On the Opening of a Puppet Theatre in Kustanai,” which laid the foundation for its history.
Distinguished guests came to share the joy of the юбилей with the company — theatre veterans, directors of different years, and representatives of the Department of Culture and the media. In the foyer, guests were welcomed by young women in traditional national costumes, musicians, and life-sized puppets, creating a truly festive atmosphere.
As part of the celebration, the audience was introduced to the baby theatre — one of the most significant achievements of the past year. Guests watched an excerpt from the performance “Mishka Kosolapy”, which has become part of the repertoire of this new direction — theatre for the youngest audiences.
A special highlight of the anniversary evening was the opening of a mini-museum, as well as the presentation of a book dedicated to the formation and development of the theatre. Copies of the publication were presented to staff members and to those who made a significant contribution to its growth.
The festive evening concluded with a performance of “MEN…” — winner of three international festivals and recipient of the title “Puppet Theatre Performance of the Year” following the “Theatres of Kazakhstan – 2025” monitoring project conducted by the Association of Theatre Critics of Kazakhstan.
The anniversary brought together theatre professionals of different generations, once again confirming that the art of puppet theatre is an integral part of our culture.
